Aspen's Rio Grande Skatepark in Colorado

17,000 Sq Ft

Team Pain completed the City of Aspen’s “Rio Grande Skate Park” in November 2000. Still today, the Rio Grande Skate Park is receiving recognition in the skate park industry and in 2002 received a “Merit Award for Design from the Colorado Chapter of American Society of Landscape Architects”. The super smooth 17,000 square foot skate park consists of a combination flow/mini bowl varying from 4 to 6 feet in depth with extensions, a fun hip and jump box. A 3 level pool that is 9 feet at its deepest end with plenty of good hip action, as well as, a 3 ½ foot deep bowl for the beginners. Team Pain worked with the city’s landscape architect to creatively tie the skate park within its landscape by using colored concrete techniques and introduced large boulders for retention walls and seating. The City of Aspen effectively used the design-build process for a very successful and environmentally friendly skate park. No fences, no pads and no staff.
