September 2000 Surf/Skate Expo.

During the September 2000 Surf/Skate Expo, things ended up a little different than normal. How? Well, the kind people that ran the Expo were letting more minors into the Tradeshow this year & even letting them skate if they had a waiver signed. So we saw five kids skating the vert ramp (two during the snake session) and the others during a slow time that they had to let the little guys show their stuff. Also out on the street demo, a couple of little guys were out showing off their talent. The only bad thing was the rain. With a hurricane looming down on to the west coast of Florida, the weather took a turn for the worst on Saturday & Sunday. This did not stop the talent pool from demonstrating their stuff on wet ramps. Also new this Tradeshow, a quarter pipe with a deck that stepped up to the loading dock. This is what the best trick event was help on. Money was given to the best combination of tricks up onto the loading dock, on to a wallride & back off the deck. This was very entertaining. The combos were being strung together time & time again. Skaters like Kyle Berrard, Matt Moffit, Chris Chambers, Mike Peterson, Tyrone Olson & many more were busting moves such as 3600 kickflips, shuvit kickflips, heelflips & other sick variation. Dave Mayhew ended up taking home the prize money for best trick/ combinations up & down the loading dock. Matt Moffit pulled off a frontside Ollie to axle stall on 5" ledge wide ledge on the wall ride & blunts by Mike Peterson. Chad Bartie was pulling off sick Backside Tailslides on the wallride. Some of the little guys were tearing up the street course such as Grant Taylor & Mike Laskey who is shown to the right doing an Ollie-to-Grind in wet conditions.

Virginia Beach Local, Sergie Ventura boosting a sylish air during the High Air Contest. This air was only 8', but Sergie was reaching hights of 12' 1/2"
The Vert Ramp went off all weekend with some heavy sessions taking place. Saturday featured the High Air Event with a few skaters hucking up some big airs just to be over shawdowed by Sergie Ventura & Lincoln Ueda going another 4' higher than the rest of the crew. Sergie started off with a second run that left the 12' 1/2" mark to be the mark to beat. After a couple of more runs by Lincoln coming close to this mark but not riding out of the airs Lincoln blasted a huge Method that was measured 13'1/2". This was a new mark for Sergie to try for; but to no avail he couldn't quite huck himself that high so Lincoln won the pot of cash. What an exciting event.
On Sunday, the vert ramp offered the beast trick which put everyone in contention for the prize money. Volcom's own Remy Stratton was trying "Frontside Shuvits-to-Blunts" which he finnaly pulled off. Buster Halterman pulled off a "Frontside Rodeo Flip & a HeelFlip Varial-to-Lien". Lincoln Ueda was tring 8' Rodeo Flips & coming real close, but just could not make them. PeeWee from Virginia Beach pulled off a 7200, while Matt Moffit pulled off a "Frontside One-Footed Nose Grind", but to take home all the money was a trick done by Volcom's own Matt Dove doing a "Frontside Shuvit 5400". Another Trade Show, another weekend of incredible skatting. Stay Tuned for the next Surf/Skate Trade Show in January 2001.

Lincoln Ueda Skated with his normal syle, BIG AIRS & suprising tricks. He's the type of skater that you are so use to seeing him go huge in the air & travel the whole width of the ramp that when he does a Egg Plant or a Kickflip to Tail slide you are either blown away thinking that he learned a new trick or since he wasn't well over head you just don't notice the trick. Lincoln has such a full bag of tricks that he can bust out @ any time. When I asked him why he doesn't do more of these kinds of tricks he just said," It's hard for me to slow down, I have so much fun going really fast & with all that speed I end up going super high in the Air." It makes sense to me, Lincoln love the feeling he get from skateboarding & he loves the rush so he keeps that feeling alive by blasting up into the rafters"

Below, Lincoln is slowing down enough to pull a One Footed 50 grind
